Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, R&D – Oxford, United Kingdom


Responsible for data analysis and archival strategies and activities to support R&D programs and product development. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of statistical and computational techniques to potential inventions, products, and problems. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories. Makes creative and effective contributions to scientific partnerships, collaborations, literature, and conferences. Participates in development of patent applications. Serves as an in-house expert and advises senior management.


  • Conceives, plans, designs and conducts research in algorithm development and statistical analysis.
  • Leads analysis activities for multiple discovery programs, product development, and methods/processes. Identifies and solves technical challenges and implements improvements to work processes.
  • Designs, plans and executes project tasks. Designs and executes experiments to test hypotheses related to project outcomes. Applies advanced scientific knowledge to projects; determines priorities for experiments. Assures experimental quality through sound, independent, experimental design.


A PhD in Science, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Mathematics, or Statistics plus 2 or more years relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 6 or more years relevant experience. Preferred candidates will have experience with statistical software packages such as R or S-plus, scripting language such as Perl or Python, and/or procedural programming language. Expertise in manipulation and management of large-scale data sets and/or data mining techniques for oligonucleotide microarray, next generation sequencing, and genotyping technologies is highly desirable.

  • Broad knowledge of techniques in statistics and computational biology and is skilled in their application. Must be able to work independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Track record of demonstrated success in achieving goals in a specific timeframe and in a fast-paced environment. Flexible to adjust to project needs and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of searching scientific literature to gain general and specific information. Proven ability to apply technical writing skills to create reports, documents, and presentations.
  • Possesses strong data analysis, troubleshooting, and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

VP R&D / Product Development – US-based


A veteran of the molecular diagnostics industry with 15-20 years experience developing and launching genetic tests. Has led several R&D teams engaged in early stage technology development and product development on several genetic analysis platforms. Experience running large-scale projects with diagnostic and pharma partners.


  • Deliver new molecular diagnostic and cytogenetic products spanning DNA microarrays and Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Oversee the writing of technical documents for executive management, product applications, technical support, marketing and sales activities.
  • Present workshops and seminars at scientific meetings and tradeshows.
  • Serve as a scientific/technical resource to business development.


  • Extensive project team and program leadership and management of collaborations with other companies and academia.
  • PhD in genetics, molecular biology, or neuroscience is preferred.

Reports directly to the CEO. Large company experience in both therapeutics and diagnostics. Accomplished executive in setting strategy, growing market share and income. Has expertise in launching new medical/health care technologies. Skilled in strategic planning, product management, forecasting, marketing, branding and operations. Has extensive experience in personalized medicine and molecular diagnostics. Track record with several product launches and has been part of start-up success. Will be charged with assisting in building the value of the company by sourcing, negotiating and closing deals with external partners.


  • Responsible for product roadmap and all commercial aspects of molecular diagnostics development programs.
  • Lead creation of physician education programs, Key Opinion Leader development.
  • Develop an annual business development plan that identifies and prioritizes the most attractive opportunities.
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of deals; leverage corporate resources for high priority opportunities.
  • Identify and assess potential business deals, including a variety of deal types.
  • Build analytical models and perform financial analyses, comprehensively value opportunities, provide clear explanations, and make well-founded recommendations to top management, including proactively identifying and communicating the commercial value proposition for prospective partners.
  • Employ effective project management methodologies; organize cross-functional teams to support the deal pipeline.


  • Minimum of 10-15 years relevant experience in clinical testing market(s) or closely related field(s).
  • Direct experience commercializing/launching products into regulated/clinical markets.
  • Experience interacting with technical R&D teams of cross-functional composition.
  • Has an outstanding track record of developing relationships, managing a strong pipeline of deals, and closing transactions.
  • Must combine an ability to articulate the technology, tap into senior level biopharmaceutical contacts, and to define its value to external partners.
  • MBA with a background in sales is preferred.
